What Motivates Us

Human actions are influenced by a general ethical factor of inclination to be help one another and uphold justice and equity. SSDP is also inspired to carry out its activities due to the poor socio-economic conditions in the larger part of the country. We wish to address and play our part in the progress and prosperity of destitute persons. The Sindh province has a population of 50.4 million people (23 Percent of the country’s population) and generates 27 percent of Pakistan’ s DGP. Almost half of Sindh’s Population lives in Rural areas and about 37 percent of the rural population lives below the poverty line-higher than the Pakistan average. Poverty rates are much higher in the arid areas of the province including That, Badin, Thatta, Jamshoro, Sanghar, Larkana, Dadu districts. Some Parts Sindh that was badly effected by recent Flood have some of the highest stunting rates in the country, reflecting limited access to sanitation facilities and clear water. Food insecurity and associated malnutrition are prevalent with high figures among the poorest, and are expected to worsen due to flooding.

One of the major concerns on socio-economic disparities in Sindh relates to gender disparity i.e. poor access and utilization of maternal, newborn and child health services. Growing children face worsening conditions due to lack of skills training programs for vulnerable young women and access to both finance and job placement interventions for young woman.

Sindh witness’s huge gaps in social protection service delivery due to scanty interventions, inadequate coverage, and administrative lapses. These multiple risks devour children’s opportunities to achieve developmental milestones within desired timelines. The stunting rate in Sindh is 49.9 percent the highest in Pakistan. Malnutrition and poverty are significantly correlated in Sindh in Sindh. In rural Sindh women remain highly vulnerable to higher maternal mortality due to unsatisfactory family planning services and utilization and high levels of low skilled birth attendance.

SSDP ensures that the impecunious and pauperized population like poor orphaned children, helpless widows and the affected people of natural disasters should be provided access to shelter, education basic health services and appropriate social protection for improving the standard of living of the downtrodden people, through facilitation in basic needs thereby enabling dignified livelihood.
